Driver, woman killed in Piri vil­lage auto crash

A driver and a mid­dle- aged woman lost their lives while two oth­ers sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries in a mo­tor ac­ci­dent that oc­curred at Piri vil­lage, along the Abuja-Lokoja high­way.

A wit­ness said the ac­ci­dent hap­pened when a Toy­ota Camry car had a tyre burst while on speed and crashed into a ditch, killing the driver and the woman on the spot.

He said the ve­hi­cle som­er­saulted thrice af­ter it over­took an­other ve­hi­cle at a sharp bend be­fore run­ning into the ditch, say­ing men of the Federal Road Safety Com­mis­sion (FRSC), who were on pa­trol, ar­rived the scene and evac­u­ate the corpses to hospi­tal.

When con­tacted, Yan­goji unit com­man­der of the FRSC, Aus­tine Chuek­wudi Okeke, con­firmed the ac­ci­dent in which he said a driver and a mid­dle aged woman lost their lives.

He said two per­sons that sus­tained in­juries were taken to Kwali Gen­eral Hospi­tal while the corpses were de­posited at the same hospi­tal.

He at­trib­uted the ac­ci­dent to speed limit vi­o­la­tion and tyre burst.

The unit com­man­der added that one per­son was also killed in an­other ac­ci­dent which oc­curred on Tues­day evening also at Piri vil­lage, along the Abuja-Lokoja high­way.

He said the ac­ci­dent hap­pened around 6:28 pm when a Ford bus had a tyre burst and crashed into a ditch, say­ing the corpse of the vic­tim was also taken to Kwali Gen­eral Hospi­tal’s morgue.

He said one per­son that sus­tained in­juries as a re­sult of the ac­ci­dent was taken to the same hospi­tal for at­ten­tion.
