Maj-Gen Abdulkadir receives ECOWAS, Malian honours
Former Force Commander of the AfricanLed International Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA), Major General Shehu Usman Abdulkadir, has received two medals of honour in recognition of his contribution to peacekeeping in West Africa.
They are the ECOWAS Medal of Honour and the Commander of the Order of the Mali. Both honours were given to him for his services as Force Commander of AFISMA from January to July 2013.
He received the medals during the 44th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivore recently.
Major-General Abdulkadir, 56, hails from Lapai, Niger State. He enlisted into the Nigerian Army on January 3, 1977 as a regular combatant officer and was commissioned on June 16, 1979 into the corps of Military Police.
In his military career, he has held many appointments in the staff, command and as instructional staff. He was platoon commander in HQ Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, instructor Nigerian Army School of Military Police and Military Assistant to Minister of Internal Affairs.
He was also Commander AHQ Provost Group, Commandant Nigerian Army School of Military Police, Military Secretary - Army, Chief of Research and Development in Defence HQ, Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation in AHQ, Force Commander of AFISMA and Commander, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army.
The recent ECOWAS and Malian honours were an addition to the four military honours and awards that Major-General Abdulkadir had received previously for diligent service to Nigerian Army.
Others included: Usman Muhammad Aminu, Chom Emmanuel Joseph, Idris Musa, Onyemelukwe Ifeoma Mabel, Agidani Martha, Lakpini Clarence Ayodele Mawo, Aliyu Mohammed, Odutokun Millie Elizabeth, Musa Ajiya, Abdullahi Muhammad Tajuddeen and Osuhor Cyril Ugochukwu.
All the new fellows and members swore to abide by the Code of Professional Ethics approved by the Governing Council of the Institute, which stipulates that members and fellows must maintain an impeccable standard of integrity in all their business relationship both inside and outside the organization in which they are employed.
