Maj-Gen Ab­dulka­dir re­ceives ECOWAS, Malian honours

For­mer Force Com­man­der of the African­Led In­ter­na­tional Sup­port Mis­sion in Mali (AFISMA), Ma­jor Gen­eral Shehu Us­man Ab­dulka­dir, has re­ceived two medals of hon­our in recog­ni­tion of his con­tri­bu­tion to peace­keep­ing in West Africa.

They are the ECOWAS Medal of Hon­our and the Com­man­der of the Or­der of the Mali. Both honours were given to him for his ser­vices as Force Com­man­der of AFISMA from Jan­uary to July 2013.

He re­ceived the medals dur­ing the 44th Or­di­nary Ses­sion of the Eco­nomic Com­mu­nity of West African States (ECOWAS) Author­ity of Heads of State and Govern­ment in Ya­mous­soukro, Cote d’Ivore re­cently.

Ma­jor-Gen­eral Ab­dulka­dir, 56, hails from La­pai, Niger State. He en­listed into the Nige­rian Army on Jan­uary 3, 1977 as a reg­u­lar com­bat­ant of­fi­cer and was com­mis­sioned on June 16, 1979 into the corps of Mil­i­tary Po­lice.

In his mil­i­tary ca­reer, he has held many ap­point­ments in the staff, com­mand and as in­struc­tional staff. He was pla­toon com­man­der in HQ Nige­rian Army Corps of Mil­i­tary Po­lice, in­struc­tor Nige­rian Army School of Mil­i­tary Po­lice and Mil­i­tary As­sis­tant to Min­is­ter of In­ter­nal Af­fairs.

He was also Com­man­der AHQ Provost Group, Com­man­dant Nige­rian Army School of Mil­i­tary Po­lice, Mil­i­tary Sec­re­tary - Army, Chief of Re­search and De­vel­op­ment in De­fence HQ, Chief of Army Stan­dards and Eval­u­a­tion in AHQ, Force Com­man­der of AFISMA and Com­man­der, Train­ing and Doc­trine Com­mand Nige­rian Army.

The re­cent ECOWAS and Malian honours were an ad­di­tion to the four mil­i­tary honours and awards that Ma­jor-Gen­eral Ab­dulka­dir had re­ceived pre­vi­ously for dili­gent ser­vice to Nige­rian Army.

Oth­ers in­cluded: Us­man Muham­mad Aminu, Chom Em­manuel Joseph, Idris Musa, Onyemelukwe Ifeoma Ma­bel, Agi­dani Martha, Lakpini Clarence Ay­o­dele Mawo, Aliyu Mo­hammed, Odu­tokun Mil­lie El­iz­a­beth, Musa Ajiya, Ab­dul­lahi Muham­mad Ta­jud­deen and Osuhor Cyril Ugochukwu.

All the new fel­lows and mem­bers swore to abide by the Code of Pro­fes­sional Ethics ap­proved by the Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil of the In­sti­tute, which stip­u­lates that mem­bers and fel­lows must main­tain an im­pec­ca­ble stan­dard of in­tegrity in all their busi­ness re­la­tion­ship both in­side and out­side the or­ga­ni­za­tion in which they are em­ployed.

Ma­jor Gen­eral Shehu Us­man Ab­dulka­dir with Pres­i­dent Good­luck Jonathan, af­ter Ab­dulka­dir re­ceived the Malian medal of hon­our for his ser­vices as Force Com­man­der of the African-led In­ter­na­tional Sup­port Mis­sion for Mali (AFISMA) in Ya­mous­soukro, Cote d’Ivore, re­cently.
