National Conference: Senate bill empowers Jonathan to propose new constitution

Daily Trust - - VIEWS -

Constitution is a supreme document. No one should give the powers of proposing a new constitution to the individual of a president. The current structure of constitutional changes ensures wide acceptance by all Nigerians before any change is made to our supreme constitution. The Executive should simply continue to exercise their authority to propose bills.

shahidsolomon7@gmail.com *********************** That is the only thing they are capable of doing best – making noise and money. This will not be tolerated in a country where citizens are serious. But in Nigeria, parliamentarians are not doing anything except insincere remarks and secret deals. The country is not at their heart. They say what they don’t mean. They think they can hoodwink the masses.

The Adviser

siddonlook1@yahoo.co.uk *********************** I don’t think we need a new constitution for now because that can pave way for the present government to elongate its tenure. I think what the lawmakers should do is to gather opinion from Nigerians before going ahead to initiate the bill for new constitution so that Nigerians will have confidence in them. But by virtue of the present situation that Nigerians are, insecurity is the most important thing to tackle for now so that Nigerians can freely move around the country.

charlesemefu@gmail.com *********************** We are now seeing what our elders have been telling us, that Mr. President and his supporting Senators and politicians have hidden motives on this current national conference. After us the masses, it will definitely come to you, the rich and the leaders of our dear region.
