Minister of Youth Mr. Boni Haruna has appealed to the Gombe State government to transfer the control of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the ministry of youth development and poverty alleviation in the state.

According to a statement from the ministry, the minister made the appeal during his visit to the NYSC orientation camp in the state.

“I want to appeal to the Governor of Gombe State to put the NYSC in the State under the Ministry of Youth Development and Poverty Alleviation instead of the present arrangement which places the scheme under the office of the Head of Service,” Haruna said.

He observed that even if the present arrangement is beneficial to the State, it is not in line with the law; therefore he appealed to the Governor to effect the change.

Haruna however disclosed that the federal government has put in place adequate security for the corps members for the 2015 elections.

Earlier, the State coordinator of NYSC in Gombe State Mr. Teyama Nguse informed the minister that supply of electricity to the camp was recently disrupted due to transformer problem but commended the efforts of Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s workers to restore electricity supply.
