Osun communities demand new council area
Three communities out of the present Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State have called on the state government to create a new council area for them.
The communities, Obaagun, Iba, EkoEnde and Eko-Ajala, appealed to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, to approve the creation of Ifelodun-North Local Government Area from the present Ifelodun Local Government.
At a stakeholders summit held in Iba at the weekend, traditional rulers of the communities including notable personalities from the town stressed the need for the Aregbesola’s administration to create a new council area for the three communities.
The Olobaagun of Obaagun, Oba Jimoh Okunade, said it was necessary to create a new council area out of the present Ifelodun Local Government Area which comprises of five major towns and over 15 villages.
He said such would facilitate socio economic development of communities that make up the area.
Also, Chairman of the Local Government Creation Implementation Committee, Architect Osuolale Olaniyi, averred that the three communities are deprived of political and social rights in the present Ifelodun Local Government, hence the call for the creation of a new council.
