112 buried in Zamfara
The funeral for was held yesterday for 112 victims of an attack previous day by gunmen who invaded Yar’galadima village in Dansadau District of Maru LGA of Zamfara State, according to the BBC.
The state governor Abdulaziz Yari and other government officials attended the funeral for the victims. This is even as residents of the village put the number of those killed at “up to 150”.
Daily Trust gathered that some of those killed were vigilante members from Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and Kebbi States who gathered in the village for a meeting to find solution to the deadly raids on villages in their respective states.
Witnesses said the gunmen who arrived on motorbikes appeared to have got prior information on the meeting and when they appeared at the venue they suddenly opened fire on people brainstorming on the wave of attacks in the areas.
“Their informants might have informed them of the meeting, it was a well organized attack because they were carrying sophisticated weapons and they were just started shooting people even as people scampered for safety”, a witness, Mallam Muhammad said.
A survivor, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, said the attackers burgled some shops belonging to the residents and made away with some goods and torched some motorbikes before leaving.
Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 10 AIG Mamman Sule said 79 people officially confirmed dead and the perpetrators of the act would be brought to book soon. The Director press to Governor Yari Alhaji Nuhu Salihu Anka said the state government would do everything possible to find the criminals and bring them to justice.
