Mantu again
Senator Ibrahim Mantu was deputy Senate President during the end of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.
He was Senate Committee chairman on Constitution Review. He was accused of being at the forefront of those who attempted to review the constitution to accommodate Obasanjo’s inglorious Third Term Agenda.
Apart from politicians, rights activists and opposition elements, even clerics didn’t spare the politician in their pulpits.
Many of them re-christened him Senator ‘Mantuwa’ over his alleged role in the Third Term Agenda.
After the tenure elongation plot flopped at the two chambers of the National Assembly, Mantu also lost his re-election to the Senate from Plateau. Since then, he went into hibernation.
Mantu is at it again. Last week, he convened a new group called National Unity Forum. Coincidentally, Mantu group emerged when the Senate is contemplating drawing a new constitution. This is the second coming of Mantu.
