Kano LG polls: KANSIEC extends sales and collection of aspiration forms

Kano State Independen­t Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has yesterday after a meeting with different party leadership in the state agreed for a three day extension on sales and collection of aspiration form for the state local government elections slated for May 17 2014.

Speaking during the meeting, KANSIEC Chairman Dr. Sani Lawal Malumfashi stated that the thirst for a free and fair local government election had necessitat­ed the commission to extend the dateline on two different occasion adding that the present extension is the third and the last the commission will do.

The three day extension starts from 8th April to 10th April 2014.

Malunfashi also stated that the extension will not affect the election timetable which slated May 17 2014 as election’s day and result of the election will be declared on the 18th of May and that runoff election will be conducted on May 24.

An undertakin­g was unanimousl­y signed by representa­tives of the different party at the meeting binding them to the extension period.

It could be recalled that opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party had accused the state government of trying to manipulate the local government election in the state to favour itself.
