Kano LG polls: KANSIEC ex­tends sales and collection of as­pi­ra­tion forms

Kano State In­de­pen­dent Elec­toral Com­mis­sion (KANSIEC) has yes­ter­day af­ter a meet­ing with dif­fer­ent party lead­er­ship in the state agreed for a three day ex­ten­sion on sales and collection of as­pi­ra­tion form for the state lo­cal govern­ment elec­tions slated for May 17 2014.

Speak­ing dur­ing the meet­ing, KANSIEC Chair­man Dr. Sani Lawal Malum­fashi stated that the thirst for a free and fair lo­cal govern­ment elec­tion had ne­ces­si­tated the com­mis­sion to ex­tend the date­line on two dif­fer­ent oc­ca­sion adding that the present ex­ten­sion is the third and the last the com­mis­sion will do.

The three day ex­ten­sion starts from 8th April to 10th April 2014.

Malun­fashi also stated that the ex­ten­sion will not af­fect the elec­tion timetable which slated May 17 2014 as elec­tion’s day and re­sult of the elec­tion will be de­clared on the 18th of May and that runoff elec­tion will be con­ducted on May 24.

An un­der­tak­ing was unan­i­mously signed by rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the dif­fer­ent party at the meet­ing bind­ing them to the ex­ten­sion pe­riod.

It could be re­called that op­po­si­tion party in the state, the Peo­ples Demo­cratic Party had ac­cused the state govern­ment of try­ing to ma­nip­u­late the lo­cal govern­ment elec­tion in the state to favour it­self.
