Facts about the ribs
ribs are the thin, flattish bones that curve around the chest.
Together, the rib bones are called the rib cage which protects vital organs like the kidney, liver, heart, stomach, lung, spleen e.t.c.
The gaps between the ribs are called intercostal spaces and they contain thin sheets of muscle which contract and relax the chest during breathing.
Every human has 12 pairs of ribs; seven pairs of true ribs, three pairs of false ribs and two pairs of floating ribs.
