Mis­guided cler­ics lead youths into in­sur­gency–Lemu

King Faisal award re­cip­i­ent Sheikh Ahmed Lemu says he plans to work to­wards cor­rect­ing the in­for­ma­tion im­parted on youths by mis­guided cler­ics which re­sults in the Boko Haram in­sur­gency. Lemu spoke yes­ter­day dur­ing a visit to Niger State Gover­nor Mu’azu Ba­bangida Aliyu.

“Some of mem­bers of the clergy, whether Is­lamic or Chris­tians, do not know the con­tent of their holy books nor are they pre­pared to fol­low the con­tent and some of them are mis­lead­ing their fol­low­ers which lead to so­cial prob­lems”, he said.

In his re­marks, the gover­nor who ex­pressed de­light for the award said it is not only for Sheik Lemu but also for the state, be­ing the sec­ond Nige­rian to re­ceive it af­ter the late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi. He said the award would spur him to con­tinue to con­trib­ute to the de­vel­op­ment of mu­tual un­der­stand­ing be­tween Mus­lims and Chris­tians.
