Vic­tim of crane ac­ci­dent dies in Abuja hospi­tal

The vic­tim of last Mon­day’s crane ac­ci­dent yes­ter­day passed away at an Abuja hospi­tal af­ter suc­cumb­ing to in­juries.

A crane crashed down from its mount and fell on the vic­tim iden­ti­fied as Ab­dul­wa­heed Ah­mad who hailed from Oluwale in Asa Lo­cal govern­ment in Kwara state.

He was mar­ried with a child. His re­mains have been taken to his home­town for burial, Daily Trust gath­ered.

The ac­ci­dent oc­curred at a con­struc­tion site in Maitama when the vic­tim brought tiles in a ve­hi­cle into the build­ing premises to be used for the con­struc­tion work.

An­other ve­hi­cle was be­ing off­loaded of con­struc­tion equip­ment with the crane when it crashed down, Daily Trust learnt.

Ah­mad’s legs and hand were am­pu­tated in the in­ci­dent and was rushed to an undis­closed hospi­tal and later re­ferred to the Abuja clinic where he later died, a source told Daily Trust.

An eye wit­ness Muhammed Umar who also par­tic­i­pated in the res­cue ef­fort said af­ter the ac­ci­dent said they man­aged to pull the vic­tim out from un­der the crane.

He said the crane is an old one and it has 15 tons ca­pac­ity while the load it lifted was over 20 tons. It buck­led on the weight and fell side­ways crash­ing on the vic­tims.
