Daily Trust - - BUSINESS - From Chris Agabi, Lagos

The public car park at the International Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) has been relocated to a new temporary parking facility located between the church and the mosque, along the airport access road.

The car park, which is about 800 meters from the Terminal, became operational at about 10.00hrs on Sunday, April 6, 2014.

Yakubu Dati, the spokesman for the aviAtion parastals, said the relocation became necessary to make way for the construction of a new International Terminal, a Five-Star Hospitality Facility, and an Ultra Modern MultiStorey Car Park at the site formerly occupied by car hire and bus operators.

The new car park has 1,000 parking bays, 24/7 free shuttle buses/security surveillance, 6nos. standard restrooms, dedicated bus route, 2nos. pedestrian walk ways, pick-up and drop off zones, among other amenities.

“To minimise the inconvenience of having to walk to the new car par, shuttle buses are provided to convey passengers to and from the Terminal free of charge” he said.

According to him, “the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is mindful of some inconveniences that the on-going construction works may create for passengers and other airport users and hereby appeals for patience and understanding during this period as it continues in its effort at necessary upgrades in line with international standards.”
