FG to partner Total Group on rural electrification
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has assured Total Group of government’s readiness to make electricity affordable to Nigerians in rural areas.
Nebo, who gave the assurance at the weekend while receiving in audience a delegation from Total Nigeria, said the pilot scheme of the ‘Operation Light-up Rural Nigeria (OLRN) initiated by government provided solar powered energy to households, as well as street lights and energy hub centres to 3 communities not connected to the national grid.
He noted that the Total’s Access to Energy project was closely related to the OLRN which Mr. President flaggedoff on January 13, 2014 in Durumi, Wura and Shape communities of the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister said he would work with his counterparts in the Ministry of Finance and other agencies of government to provide incentives to investors in power sector.
