Daily Trust - - ENVIRONMENT - From Ahmed Mohammed, Bauchi

The National Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Gombe operation office, has organised a workshop on prevention, mitigation and preparedness ahead of the rainy season.

The development came on the heels of the prediction of flood disaster by the Nigeria Metro logical Agency (NIMET).

The head of operation Gombe, Mr. Jediel Apollo, stated recently, at Development Exchange Centre in Bauchi that the aim of the workshop was to train and create awareness on the expected disaster so that it will be controled.

Apollo said that the effect of flood disaster in the recent past has reduced significantly compared to the experiences in the last four years.

“In the past four years our agency had entrenched a system of creating necessary awareness for flood prevention, mitigation, and preparedness which yielded positive results as the menace of flooding was brought to its barest minimum,” he said.
