Delegate wants end to violence against women

Daily Trust - - NEWS - By Francis Okeke

A delegate from the Nigeria Council of Women Society Safiya Ibrahim Ogoh yesterday called for an end to all forms of violence against women in Nigeria.

Ogoh said women are “intelligent, good managers and agents of change that can fast track Nigeria’s development if given the chance,” while urging the conference not to “leave any stone unturned in unfettering women of every encumbrances whether social, social, cultural, political or economic.”

She also called for unhindered access to education as a right to every child in Nigeria, especially the girl child whose rights must be respected.

“Women and girls have been over exposed to danger and growing insecurity in contemporary times. Growing insecurity and deteriorating national security…have increased and overtly over exposed women and girls to danger, displacement, abuse, rape, other social costs and deaths,” she said.
