Gun­men at­tack foot­ball fans in Yobe

Sus­pected Boko Haram mem­bers yes­ter­day at­tacked fans at a foot­ball view­ing cen­ter at Cen­tral Mar­ket area, (Gabashin Ka­suwa) in Po­tiskum town of Yobe state.

Yobe State Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice Sanusi A Rufa’i con­firmed the at­tack say­ing that one per­son died in­stantly while many oth­ers were in­jured.

He said that the in­jured were taken to a hospi­tal in Po­tiskum.

Daily Trust gath­ered that the at­tack­ers stormed the area at around 8:45pm in Volk­swa­gen Golf car and parked at the en­trance of the view­ing cen­ter be­fore un­leash­ing the ter­ror.

An eye wit­ness, Malam Abubakar, said that five of the at­tack­ers went into the cen­ter and opened fire while the re­main­ing mem­bers of the gang con­tin­ued shoot­ing spo­rad­i­cally out­side.

He said that the per­son who died in­stantly was a commercial phone charger out­side the view­ing cen­ter, adding that the num­ber of ca­su­al­ties could not be as­cer­tained be­cause many people es­caped with bul­let wounds.

A source at the Po­tiskum Gen­eral Hospi­tal con­firmed re­ceiv­ing one corpse and eight wounded people.
