Ondo APC congress ends in chaos

Two per­sons were re­ported killed yes­ter­day in Akure dur­ing an APC congress. One of the vic­tims whose death was con­firmed to news­men yes­ter­day evening iden­ti­fied as Bo­sun Ade­gorola was said to have re­ceived a gun shot in the head at Ward 2 fol­low­ing a mi­nor ar­gu­ment with thugs.

State po­lice spokesman, Olu­wole Ogodo, who con­firmed the death, said the case was re­ported to them af­ter the vic­tim was shot and rushed to the Gen­eral Hospi­tal where med­i­cal per­son­nel bat­tled fruit­lessly to save his life. Al­though the iden­tity of the other vic­tim was yet to be re­vealed at press time, sources said he was one of those hit by stray bul­lets. Sev­eral other people, all mem­bers of the party who sus­tained in­juries are re­ceiv­ing treat­ment at the Gen­eral Hospi­tal, the po­lice spokesman said. He said three people are help­ing in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. The APC ward congress was ear­lier slated for Satur­day last week but was post­poned due to the Ilaje Ese Odo Federal Con­stituency elec­tion fixed for same date by INEC. A fac­tion of the APC in the state Mon­day an­nounced its de­ci­sion to pull out of the congress over what it termed ‘marginal­i­sa­tion’.
