Don urges FG to establish Ministry of Peace
Acting Director of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ilorin, Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji, has called for the establishment of the Ministry of Peace to address the security challenges confronting the country.
Adedimeji made the call while receiving the national leaders of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) led by its National President, Dr. Willy Eselebor, in his office.
The director listed three ways of resolving a conflict to include going to war, court and dialogue, noting that governments in the world have Ministries of Defense for dispute resolution through war and Ministries of Justice for dispute resolution through the court.
He regretted that governments did not provide for dispute resolution through dialogue by establishing Ministries of Peace.
Adedimeji said that only three countries have Ministries of Peace in the world, namely, Nepal, Costa Rica and Solomon Islands.
Earlier, the National President of the SPSP appreciated the support of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies in hosting the conference of the society.
He advocated closer collaboration between CPSS and SPSP, saying that the society would be ready to provide peace professionals to educate students with practical skills.
