FCT SARS nabs suspected taxi snatcher
Officials of the FCT Special AntiRobbery Squad (SARS) said they have arrested a man, who specialised in snatching taxi cars after luring their owners to a drinking joint.
A competent source said policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, while on surveillance arrested a 26- yearold man with a Master Saloon car.
The source told our reporter that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have stolen the car from an unsuspecting man, whom he went drinking with.
“According to the suspect, he stopped the owner of the car pretending to be a passenger and requested the driver to take him to a garden to eat but on reaching there, he told the driver to join him in eating,” he said.
Our reporter gathered that the suspect told the victim to eat and drink whatever he wanted and after a while, he told the taxi driver that he needed to go and get more money from the ATM, requesting the driver to give him his car key.
“The driver, who was told to eat and drink without suspecting that the man was a car thief, gave him his car keys, and the man disappeared with the vehicle,” the police source added.
When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Altine Daniel, confirmed the arrest, alleging that the suspect also snatched other people’s cars.
She said before his arrest, he met a victim at a drinking joint and offered him a drink, as they were drinking, he used the same trick as the first and collected the car’s key and disappeared.
The Deputy Superintendent said that the two vehicles have been recovered, adding that investigation was ongoing.
