Oshiomhole annuls Edo APC ward congress

Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Vincent Egunyanga, Benin

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole yesterday cancelled Tuesday’s ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Oshiomhole said at a news conference in Benin that he cancelled the congress organized only in all the seven local government areas in Edo South because of irregularities witnessed during the exercise.

He said he received reports that electoral officials either did not turn up for the exercise or turned up without membership registers and result sheets. This he said, resulted in members resorting to using their own sheets of paper to write results , which he said is unacceptable.

He said the absence of the membership registers and result sheets rendered the exercise a nullity as it cast doubts on the integrity of the process. The governor said people outside Edo South Senatorial District will now conduct fresh ward congresses this Saturday, warning that no offensive weapon, offensive language or poster would be tolerated.

He appealed to those who claimed victory on Tuesday to bear with the party, pointing out that any exercise that does not meet with the expectations of the party would not be tolerated.
