Violent clash averted in Kachia
Police in Kaduna yesterday said they succeeded in checking what could have turned into a violent religious clash in Kachia town. Two police vehicles were however destroyed before normalcy returned to the town when tension rose after people found out in the morning that some parts of the Muslims Eid-ground perimeter fence were demolished.
Police spokesman Aminu Lawan said a number of people protested over the destruction of the fence overnight by unknown people.
“We succeeded in dousing tension in the town but not until our vehicles were damaged. The people were angered by the demolition of the wall of the Eid ground. They threw stones at police vehicles conveying officers to the scene. Normalcy has returned and we are investigating the incident”, he said.
