Vi­o­lent clash averted in Kachia

Po­lice in Kaduna yes­ter­day said they suc­ceeded in check­ing what could have turned into a vi­o­lent re­li­gious clash in Kachia town. Two po­lice ve­hi­cles were how­ever de­stroyed be­fore nor­malcy re­turned to the town when ten­sion rose af­ter people found out in the morn­ing that some parts of the Mus­lims Eid-ground perime­ter fence were de­mol­ished.

Po­lice spokesman Aminu Lawan said a num­ber of people protested over the de­struc­tion of the fence overnight by un­known people.

“We suc­ceeded in dous­ing ten­sion in the town but not un­til our ve­hi­cles were dam­aged. The people were an­gered by the de­mo­li­tion of the wall of the Eid ground. They threw stones at po­lice ve­hi­cles con­vey­ing of­fi­cers to the scene. Nor­malcy has re­turned and we are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent”, he said.
