Five kids die in Niger boat mishap
Five persons died after a boat capsized Saturday evening in the Egah River in Edati LGA of Niger State while heading to Dankoji village from Limfa Kuso village.
The dead included all the passengers, though the driver survived. The four boys who died in the mishap were all from Gbamachi village while the identity of the only female passenger was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
They had left home to attend a naming ceremony in Dankoji, and boarded the boat at around 2:30 pm in Limfa Kuso expecting to be ferried cross the Egah River which is a tributary of the River Niger.
But the boat driver lost control after hitting a rock in the fast flowing river. According to a witness, it took an extra effort by fishermen to recover the bodies.
Police spokesman ASP Richard Oguche gave the names of the deceased as Baba Mohammed, Abu Yaba, Audu Sa’idu, Jibrin Mohammed and Aisha Usman.
