Five kids die in Niger boat mishap

Five per­sons died af­ter a boat cap­sized Satur­day evening in the Egah River in Edati LGA of Niger State while head­ing to Dankoji vil­lage from Limfa Kuso vil­lage.

The dead in­cluded all the pas­sen­gers, though the driver sur­vived. The four boys who died in the mishap were all from Gba­machi vil­lage while the iden­tity of the only fe­male pas­sen­ger was yet to be as­cer­tained at the time of fil­ing this re­port.

They had left home to at­tend a nam­ing cer­e­mony in Dankoji, and boarded the boat at around 2:30 pm in Limfa Kuso ex­pect­ing to be fer­ried cross the Egah River which is a trib­u­tary of the River Niger.

But the boat driver lost con­trol af­ter hit­ting a rock in the fast flow­ing river. Ac­cord­ing to a wit­ness, it took an ex­tra ef­fort by fish­er­men to re­cover the bod­ies.

Po­lice spokesman ASP Richard Oguche gave the names of the de­ceased as Baba Mo­hammed, Abu Yaba, Audu Sa’idu, Jib­rin Mo­hammed and Aisha Us­man.
