Daily Trust - - NEWS - From Femi Akinola, Lagos

One person was killed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress weekend in Coker Aguda/ Orile Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.

Though the congress started peacefully at the Sanya Grammar School along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, it later turned rowdy due to an alleged attempt by a group linked to the Council Chairman, Bolanle Akinyemi-Obe, to impose their candidate. Resistance to the alleged imposition led to a confrontation between the two groups and dangerous weapons were freely used.

A witness said a middle-aged man named Ewe was stabbed during the confrontation by one thug allegedly brought into the congress by an aspirant.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, (LCDA) Jide Jimoh, has said that internal democracy is possible going by the successful local government congress organised by the APC. He spoke to journalists over the weekend at St. Agnes’ Primary School after the election of the local government officers in the council area.

“Our ward congress last weekend was peaceful and today local government congress witnessed a peaceful atmosphere. I appreciate the leadership of the APC for making it known that democracy is possible internally,” he said.
