Groups can­vass free ed­u­ca­tion, health­care for per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties

The Kaduna State govern­ment has been urged to pro­vide free ed­u­ca­tion and health­care ser­vices for per­sons liv­ing with dis­abil­i­ties.

Speak­ing in Kaduna over the weekend at the Disability Bill Round­table Re­view meet­ing or­ga­nized by the Gen­der Work­ing Group (GWG) in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Joint Na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of Per­sons liv­ing With Dis­abil­i­ties (JONAPWD) and State Ac­count­abil­ity and Voice Ini­tia­tive (SAVI), Mrs. Hauwa DikkoFarouk of the Fa­tima Dikko Foun­da­tion and rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the Co­or­di­na­tor of GWG said this is part of the so­lu­tions prof­fered at a stake­hold­ers’ meet­ing on how best to han­dle the re­view of the Disability Bill in Kaduna State.

Dikko-Farouk said waiver of taxation for per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties and the cre­ation of a com­mis­sion man­dated to cater for con­sti­tu­tional rights of per­sons with dis­abil­i­ties has also been pro­posed, adding that the re­view meet­ing is ex­pected to pave the way to en­sure the pas­sage of the bill in the state.
