Pensioners threaten protest
The National Union of Pensioners, All Sectoral Units (ASU), has issued a deadline of July 1 to the federal government to implement the 33.4 per cent pension increase or risk a nationwide protest.
The ultimatum which was issued in a communiqué after the general meeting of ASU held at the weekend was jointly signed by the national chairman, Comrade Rasaki Ope and national secretary, Comrade Franklin Erinle.
The communique said failure of the federal government to meet its demands would result in a mass protest by all pensioners.
“We condemn the disparities in payment of pensions nationwide and call on the federal government to harmonize same without delay,” the group said.
