APC conducts peaceful congress in Kogi

Daily Trust - - INSIDE POLITICS - From Usma A. Bello, Lokoja

Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it has peacefully concluded the ward and local government congresses in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Chairman of Kogi State Congress Committee, Dr. Saa’du Ayinla Alanamu, while addressing journalists on Saturday, said the congress in Kogi State was very peaceful when compared with reports of what happened in other states.

He said in congresses like the one his party had just conducted, one cannot rule out the possibility of problems ‘here and there’ but said all the skirmishes have been under control, saying the APC is on ground in Kogi.

“From the look of things, the APC is already on ground. You can see from the turnout of the people and not only this place, but when you go to every nook and cranny of Kogi State since the beginning of congresses, you will find out that APC is not only winning but also on ground”, he said.

The chairman said the only challenge for the party in the state is to unite the leaders, saying that once that is overcome and a recognized leadership is in place, ‘people will vote for APC because it is the winning party.’

On consensus candidate, Alanamu said APC is a progressive party and that what it is looking for is that everybody irrespective of their religious and ethnic or social background, must be treated equally.

The member representing Lokoja/ Kogi(Koton Karfe) Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Buba Jubrin also expressed satisfaction with the conduct and result of local government congress in Lokoja and other places.
