Jonathan to formally receive Shekarau to PDP on Tuesday
President Goodluck Jonathan would formally receive the former governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Kano tomorrow, party and security sources have said.
The President is coming to Kano to receive Shekarau to PDP in a similar way other big defectors were received into the PDP in other states.
Since the defection of Shekarau last February from the All Progressive Congress (APC) the official ceremony to receive him has been shifted four times.
It was first scheduled for February 23rd, a week after Bafarawa was formally received by the President in Sokoto, only to be postponed to first week of March. It was further postponed thrice after the first date.
Our correspondent reports that ahead of the President visit to the state, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 1, Kano, Tamabari Yabo has met with political parties officials in the state.
Speaking to our correspondent on the meeting which was held behind closed door, Tambari urged the politicians to appeal to their supporters to be law abiding.
“The meeting was organised to sensitize political parties officials on the visit of Mr. President and to appeal to the general public to be law abiding,” he said.
Confirming the visit, the media adviser to Shekarau, Mallam Sule Yau Sule said all arrangements for the ceremony have been completed.
“President is coming to Kano to officially receive the former governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau to PDP on Tuesday. Preparation is on and virtually all arrangements have been concluded,” he said in a phone interview.
