A middle-aged welder was almost burnt to death Thursday, last week, while carrying out his job in his working place at Zuba.

City News learnt from a family source that the victim was welding a leaking portion of a tank filled with diesel when the incident happened.

“His Oga asked him to go and seal the leaking portion of the tank, without knowing that the tank which was initially empty had already been filled with diesel,” the source said.

According to the source, immediately the naked light from the welding machine had contact with the inflammable content in the tank, there was a sudden explosion which engulfed the man, leaving him severely burnt.

The source, however, said that the victim’s shout attracted the attention of his colleagues, who immediately put out the fire with the help of fire extinguishers, and rushed him to the hospital.

It was gathered that the victim was taken to different hospitals in Abuja before getting to the Kubwa General Hospital.

The head, Accident and Emergency unit of Kubwa Hospital, Paul Olise, said the victim was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
