Polio im­mu­ni­sa­tion starts in Mpape

The four-day polio im­mu­ni­sa­tion plus days for the month of April was started, weekend, and would be con­cluded on April 15, 2014 in the Federal Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory, Abuja.

Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary, FCT Pri­mary Health Care De­vel­op­ment Board (FCTPHCDB), Dr. Ril­wanu Mo­hammed, who su­per­vised the event in Mpape, Bwari Area Coun­cil, said within the pe­riod, oral polio vac­cine will be ad­min­is­tered on chil­dren un­der the age of five years.

He said though FCT was no longer a high risk state, rou­tine im­mu­ni­sa­tion will con­tinue from house-to-house, as­sur­ing that the vac­cine is safe for use for the new­born, sick and mal­nour­ished chil­dren.

The Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary said polio is ac­quired through fae­ces oral route that is from stool to mouth urg­ing res­i­dents to im­bibe the cul­ture of wash­ing their hands.

Mo­hammed called on res­i­dents to im­bibe the spirit of good per­sonal hy­giene in or­der to check the spread­ing of the con­ta­gious dis­eases.

Also speak­ing, HOD Health, Bwari Area Coun­cil, Dr. Sun­day Goji, called on par­ents, care­givers and fa­cil­i­ta­tors to en­sure that all chil­dren are cov­ered in the ex­er­cise.
