Polio immunisation starts in Mpape
The four-day polio immunisation plus days for the month of April was started, weekend, and would be concluded on April 15, 2014 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board (FCTPHCDB), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, who supervised the event in Mpape, Bwari Area Council, said within the period, oral polio vaccine will be administered on children under the age of five years.
He said though FCT was no longer a high risk state, routine immunisation will continue from house-to-house, assuring that the vaccine is safe for use for the newborn, sick and malnourished children.
The Executive Secretary said polio is acquired through faeces oral route that is from stool to mouth urging residents to imbibe the culture of washing their hands.
Mohammed called on residents to imbibe the spirit of good personal hygiene in order to check the spreading of the contagious diseases.
Also speaking, HOD Health, Bwari Area Council, Dr. Sunday Goji, called on parents, caregivers and facilitators to ensure that all children are covered in the exercise.
