APC members accuse commissioner of hijacking congress results

- From Femi Akinola, Lagos

Members of All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest alleged attempt by the state Commissioner for Local Government, Ademorin Kuye to hijack results of the recently concluded ward congress. The protesters stormed the House at around 12.45pm, chanting protest songs. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Segun Fehintola, told the lawmakers that the ward congress held in the local government was a peaceful one.

“We had congress in all the wards in Shomolu Local Government and it was conducted peacefully. All the delegates participated and everything was done in an orderly manner. So, we were surprised when we got to know that the Commissioner for Local Government, Ademorin Kuye and some of his allies are trying to upturn the outcome of the congress election all because the results did not favour him. They want to do this because those that emerged are not their candidates,” Fehintola said.

He added that they (protesters) went to the palace of the monarch, but that they did not meet him. “We have also been to the local government council and we have complained to the council chairman. We have come here in the interest of the local government and the state. We don’t want trouble and that is why we have come to inform the House before the issue gets out of hand,” Fehintola said.
