WAEC to ban cheats from future exams

- From Nurudeen Oyewole, Lagos

The Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has mandated the examination body to ban for a number of years, any candidate caught cheating in its annual examinations.

This is one of the positions taken at the end of the 57th NEC meeting of WAEC held in Lagos. A communiqué issued after the meeting noted that apart from the cancellation of results of cheats which has become the norm, such candidates should be restricted from future examinations.

“In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the committee endorsed appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice as prescribed by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the council’s examinations after diligent deliberations. It approved that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases which attract cancellation of subject results be similarly cancelled”, the communiqué said in part.
