Mar­keters vow to end fuel scarcity next week

Over 77,000 met­ric tonnes (33,000 trucks of 33,000 litres) of petrol will be dis­charged in La­gos and other cities dur­ing the Easter pe­riod (next week) in or­der to shore up sup­ply of the prod­uct, Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of Ma­jor Oil Mar­keters As­so­ci­a­tion of Nigeria (MO­MAN) Mr Obafemi Ola­wore, has said.

He dis­closed this at a press con­fer­ence in La­gos, yes­ter­day, say­ing that his as­so­ci­a­tion has suf­fi­cient petroleum prod­ucts in stock to for sale dur­ing the Easter pe­riod and be­yond.

He said: “Be­tween now till weekend, we will have over 75,000 met­ric­tonnes,whichrep­re­sentsabout 32 trucks of 33,000 litres of petrol to be dis­charged at Apapa jetty. We want to im­plore Nige­ri­ans not to en­gage in pan­icbuy­ing­dur­ingth­e­fes­tivepe­riod as we have enough petrol in stock to take care of the coun­try.”

He said the as­so­ci­a­tion has in­structed all ma­jor oil mar­keters’ sta­tions to op­er­ate 24-hour ser­vice
