Gun­men kill district head, 19 oth­ers in Borno vil­lages

Gun­men sus­pected to be Boko Haram mem­bers again struck in Sabuwar Ka­suwa of Hawul LGA of Borno State yes­ter­day, killing a district head and his guard. Eigh­teen other vil­lagers were killed when the in­sur­gents stormed Wala vil­lage, 130 kilo­me­ters south­west of Maiduguri in Gwoza LGA of the state around 7:00am yes­ter­day.

A lo­cal coun­cil of­fi­cial said in the past four months, dozens of vil­lages had been sacked and hun­dreds of people killed in Gwoza which shares borders with the Repub­lic of Cameroon.

“Hon­estly speak­ing, we are in a dif­fi­cult time. Deaths and de­struc­tions have be­come a daily af­fair. 18 people were killed in Wala this morn­ing by the Boko Haram gun­men”, he said as other res­i­dents added that be­fore the Wala at­tack, the gun­men had at­tacked SabonKa­suwa vil­lage around 8pm, killing the district head and his aide. A se­cu­rity source con­firmed the in­ci­dents.

“Yes, there was an at­tack in Wala and Sabuwar Ka­suwa. A very sad de­vel­op­ment de­spite our ef­forts,” he said.
