The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has dismissed one Murtala Sadiq Muhammad, over theft.

Murtala was arrested by the police last week after a shop owner accused him of stealing his mobile phone recharge cards.

Commandant of the corps, Mr Bashir Lawan, told newsmen in Gusau yesterday that the dismissal was as a result of gross misconduct.

“We summoned him to answer a query and he did. He admitted stealing recharge cards from a trader. Based on his confession, the commandant general ordered for his immediate dismissal from the service to serve as deterrent to others,” he said. Lawan added that the corps would not entertain any act of indiscipline because it was founded to protect lives, property and integrity of citizens and not to subject them to any kind of intimidation.
