Gov’s ex-aide ar­raigned over N8.8m fraud

For­mer Spe­cial Ad­viser to Kwara State Gover­nor Ab­dul­fa­tah Ahmed on Lo­cal Govern­ment Af­fairs, John Okadare, was yes­ter­day ar­raigned be­fore an Ilorin Mag­is­trate’s Court for al­legedly col­lect­ing N8. 8 mil­lion from people un­der the pre­text of reg­is­ter­ing them for hajj.

The pros­e­cu­tor, Insp. God­win Azua, told the court that he col­lected the money from in­tend­ing pil­grims in April 2013 and con­verted it to his per­sonal use and all ef­forts to re­trieve it proved abortive. The pros­e­cu­tor ob­jected to the bail ap­pli­ca­tion. Mag­is­trate Mariam Lawal how­ever granted the ac­cused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and ad­journed the case to May 5.
