Di­as­pora key to Nigeria’s trans­for­ma­tion suc­cess – DTCA

The Direc­torate of Tech­ni­cal Co­op­er­a­tion in Africa yes­ter­day said that the Di­as­pora holds the key to the trans­for­ma­tion of the coun­try’s de­vel­op­ment. Act­ing Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of the direc­torate, Mr Shuaibu Suleiman, stated this dur­ing a sym­po­sium ti­tled ‘The Di­as­pora: Chal­lenges, op­por­tu­ni­ties and strate­gies for ef­fec­tive na­tional ab­sorp­tion’ in Abuja.

He said over 250,000 con­sul­tant med­i­cal doc­tors from Nigeria live and works in the United States of Amer­ica, adding that it is ex­pe­di­ent for Africa to take full ad­van­tage of the enor­mous top class skills, re­source and ex­pe­ri­ence of its Di­as­pora.

Suleiman said the sym­po­sium will give voice to the Di­as­pora to share ex­pe­ri­ences, best prac­tices and chart a prac­ti­cal frame­work for ef­fec­tive en­gage­ment in Nigeria and the African com­mu­nity.

Prof. Ibrahim Gam­bari, for­mer United Na­tions un­der sec­re­tary, pre­sented a paper ti­tled ‘The role of the Di­as­pora in Africa’s De­vel­op­ment’ at the event.
