Daily Trust - - CITY NEWS - By Adam Umar

Three elderly men living in Unguwar Fulani area of Dakwa in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital territory (FCT) were stoned by residents of the area after they were accused of raping a 10-yearold girl.

The suspects, all above 65 years, were alleged to have lured the girl into a stall, after its owner sent her to buy a zobo drink for him.

Residents beat and stoned the men and destroyed the stall, where they allegedly committed the crime.

Mother of the girl informed City News that her daughter was returning from a mosque, where she went for Friday prayers when she was called by one of the accused, adding that her attention was brought to the matter by some women, who lived in a house close to the stall.

She said: “On getting to the area, I went close to the room in the company of the women, only to see my daughter coming out from the stall and the three men also came out thereafter.

“The owner of the room and one of the suspects was trying to lock the room when he was confronted by the crowd on discovering that they had raped the girl. They were beaten, and stoned by the crowd, who also destroyed the stall before they were picked by some policemen from Dakwa outpost after the matter was reported there.’’

A neighbour of the family, one Surajo Kamba, who reported the incident to the police, said the girl was taken to a government clinic at Deidei, where she was checked medically, and issued the result as demanded by the policemen at the outpost.

He said the three suspects were transferred to the Zuba police division from the police outpost.

When contacted, the Zuba Divisional Police officer, Femi Adeligan, a Chief Superintendent, who confirmed the incident, said the matter would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department of the FCT police command, for further action.
