Pellegrini: No regrets over Kompany selection against Liverpool

Daily Trust - - SPORT -

Manuel Pellegrini insists he stands by his decision to select Vincent Kompany against Liverpool, despite an unspectacular showing from the Manchester City skipper.

The Belgium international had landed awkwardly in a training-ground collision with Micah Richards prior to the trip to Anfield, putting his participation in doubt.

But a late fitness test saw the 28-year-old start against the rampant Reds, though he was given something of an afternoon to forget – especially when his awkward, sliced clearance landed at the feet of Philippe Coutinho who fired into the bottom corner to win the match.

Pellegrini, though, is in no doubt that he made the right decision by selecting Kompany and refused to single the Belgian out for criticism.
