Iorfa unhappy with Lobi strikers’ profligacy
Former international and Lobi Stars vice-chairman, Dominic Iorfa is not happy with the profligacy exhibited by his strikers in the NPL week six encounter against El-Kanemi Warriors in Kano.
Lobi Stars were beaten 2-0 in a match which saw their strikers wasting so many goal scoring chances in both halves of the encounter.
Speaking to Daily Trust after the match, the former international said he was highly disappointed that none of his strikers could convert any of the numerous chances that they laboured to create.
He noted that his team created at least six good goal scoring chances and needed to utilise at least three to get a decent result.
Iorfa said even as his team did not settle early into the match, the players came out smoking in the second half and deserved something better.
He maintained that it was hard for him to believe each time the chances went begging for conversion.
“I want to state here categorically that I am disappointed with the way my strikers wasted the chances that they had. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were wasteful.
“Although they did not play very well in the first half, they dominated their opponents in the second half and also created at least six clear goal scoring chances. Had they converted at least three, it would have been a better story for the team.
“For me it does not make sense when such chances come and are not utilised. Matches are won when goals are scored. I am not saying they did not play well but we were let down by our strikers who failed to score the goals”, he said.
Iorfa however assured that the technical crew would intensify work in the area of goalscoring.
“When we resume training, the coaches will drill the strikers more on goalscoring. We can not continue to waste such goalscoring opportunities.
“As a former international striker, a prolific one for that matter, it won’t speak well of me, if my strikers don’t know how to score”, he stated.
