First female Appeal Court President takes oath of office

- By Adelanwa Bamgboye

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar has urged the new President of the Court of Appeal (PCA) Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to shun all forms of political pressures.

Justice Mukhtar gave the charge yesterday in Abuja during the swearing-in ceremony of Bulkachuwa as the new and first female President of the Court of Appeal (PCA).

Justice Bulkachuwa is the sixth PCA since its inception in 1976 and the first female PCA.

The event was attended by former CJN, Muhammad Uwais, two serving State governors, including Gov. Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state and other Justices of the Court of Appeal.

While administering the judicial Oath of office on the new PCA, the CJN said the appointment was coming at a critical time when the nation’s judiciary was undergoing reforms. “For this reason I charge you to make all efforts to reposition the Court and ensure that confidence in the Court is restored”.

“You must strive with all diligence to ensure that you carry out your duties with all honesty, integrity and honour,” the CJN said.
