Rain­storm vic­tims get N10m, re­lief ma­te­ri­als in Edo

The Edo State govern­ment yes­ter­day pre­sented N10 mil­lion cheque to 268 vic­tims of Oza­lla rain­storm in Owan West Lo­cal Govern­ment Area of the state.

The vic­tims were also pre­sented with re­lief ma­te­ri­als such as mat­tresses, food items, roof­ing sheets, bev­er­ages, toi­letries and cloth­ing ma­te­ri­als.

Spe­cial Ad­viser to the Gover­nor on Spe­cial Du­ties and State Emer­gen­cies, Ha­jiya Me­muna Mo­modu, who pre­sented the cheque, said the ges­ture was in ful­fil­ment of govern­ment’s pledge to the vic­tims.

Mo­modu ad­vised the vic­tims to use the funds ju­di­ciously and en­sure that pro­tec­tive mea­sures were put in place to avoid re­oc­cur­rence.

She also urged them to in­stall roof re-en­force­ment and plant trees around their houses to serve as wind break­ers.

She said 35 people re­ceived N60,000 each and five bun­dles of roof­ing sheets and other items, while 85 oth­ers got N30,000 each and two and half bun­dles of roof­ing sheets.

The other N168 people re­ceived 20,000 each and one bun­dle of roof­ing sheets each and other items.

She said the first cat­e­gory had their roofs com­pletely blown off, the sec­ond cat­e­gory had their roofs par­tially blown off, and the last had few sheets blown off from their apart­ments. (NAN)
