‘ Tourism can gen­er­ate 2m jobs’

A re­tired di­rec­tor in the Kwara State Civil Ser­vice, Mr Kay­ode Adeyipo, has chal­lenged govern­ment at all lev­els to har­ness tourist po­ten­tials in their do­mains to cre­ate job op­por­tu­ni­ties for un­em­ployed youths. He said if the sec­tor is prop­erly ar­tic­u­lated, it is ca­pa­ble of gen­er­at­ing two mil­lion jobs.

Adeyipo, while speak­ing at the launch of a mag­a­zine in Ilorin, said tourism has be­come a ma­jor source of rev­enue for a num­ber of coun­tries across the globe.

The re­tired of­fi­cer noted that over-de­pen­dence on oil has ham­pered the de­vel­op­ment of Nigeria, not­ing that oil would dry up one day.

He said ef­forts should be in­ten­si­fied to shift at­ten­tion to tourism so as to ex­plore the lim­it­less op­por­tu­ni­ties of­fered by the sec­tor.
