RATTAWU wants due process in the award of broad­cast­ing sig­nal’s li­cence

The Ra­dio, Tele­vi­sion, Theatre and Arts Work­ers Union (RATTAWU) has ap­pealed to the Federal Govern­ment to re­spect due process in the award of broad­cast­ing sig­nal dis­tri­bu­tion li­cence to bid­ders.

The union’s call was se­quel to the pre­qual­i­fi­ca­tion for broad­cast­ing sig­nal dis­tri­bu­tion li­cence ad­ver­to­rial which was placed by the Na­tional Broad­cast­ing Com­mis­sion (NBC) and Dig­iteam Nigeria.

Gen­eral Sec­re­tary of the union Henry Odugala who made the call in La­gos at the weekend, how­ever said the de­vel­op­ment was a wel­come one.

Odugala said “while the union is not against any com­pany bid­ding or be­ing awarded the li­cence, we are how­ever re­quest­ing that any com­pany i.e. any TV sig­nal provider that has been op­er­at­ing in the coun­try il­le­gally should not be con­sid­ered un­der any name or pseu­do­nym for flout­ing the law of the coun­try.

‘’If re­ports milling around is any­thing to go by, the al­le­ga­tion is that a com­pany known as- GoTV or its pro­moter- was not li­cenced to op­er­ate Dig­i­tal Ter­res­trial Tele­vi­sion in the coun­try and has been op­er­at­ing and spread­ing in the coun­try.
