Police nab 9 suspected robbers in Benue
Police in Benue State yesterday said they apprehended nine suspected armed robbers along Okpoga road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman of the command, Daniel Ezeala, said the suspects who were 15 in number barricaded certain sections of the road linking Okpoga to other communities in the area as they robbed people plying the route. He said the robbers carried out their activities late on Saturday night until early hours of Sunday.
He said on receiving a distress call, the Eagle Eye Anti-Robbery squad of the command swooped in and arrested nine out of the 15 suspects. He added that two locally made pistols were recovered from the suspects.
Ezeala added that the arrested suspects are currently helping with investigation while police are on the trail of those who escaped.
He urged residents and motorists in the state to go about their businesses without any fear, saying the command has beefed up security to ensure safety of lives and property.
