Po­lice nab 9 sus­pected rob­bers in Benue

Po­lice in Benue State yes­ter­day said they ap­pre­hended nine sus­pected armed rob­bers along Ok­poga road in Okpokwu Lo­cal Govern­ment Area of the state.

Spokesman of the com­mand, Daniel Ezeala, said the sus­pects who were 15 in num­ber bar­ri­caded cer­tain sec­tions of the road link­ing Ok­poga to other com­mu­ni­ties in the area as they robbed people ply­ing the route. He said the rob­bers car­ried out their ac­tiv­i­ties late on Satur­day night un­til early hours of Sun­day.

He said on re­ceiv­ing a dis­tress call, the Ea­gle Eye Anti-Rob­bery squad of the com­mand swooped in and ar­rested nine out of the 15 sus­pects. He added that two lo­cally made pis­tols were re­cov­ered from the sus­pects.

Ezeala added that the ar­rested sus­pects are cur­rently help­ing with in­ves­ti­ga­tion while po­lice are on the trail of those who es­caped.

He urged res­i­dents and mo­torists in the state to go about their businesses with­out any fear, say­ing the com­mand has beefed up se­cu­rity to en­sure safety of lives and property.
