‘Zuru emi­rate should pro­duce next Kebbi gover­nor’

Youths from Zuru emi­rate in Kebbi State un­der the aegis of Zuru Youth Move­ment for Democ­racy have called for the next gover­nor of the state to come from their emi­rate .

A state­ment signed by the Pres­i­dent of the as­so­ci­a­tion, Abuja Chap­ter, Al­haji Dan­tani Dio Zuru said since the cre­ation of the state in 1991, Kebbi South con­stituency which com­prises of seven lo­cal gov­ern­ments and two emi­rates namely: Zuru Emi­rate and Yauri Emi­rates have been marginalised and con­stantly de­nied the op­por­tu­nity to pro­duce a gover­nor.

He said the lack of eq­uity in the ro­ta­tional for­mula en­shrined in the con­sti­tu­tion of the Peo­ples Demo­cratic Party (PDP), which is also the party in power both at the federal level and in Kebbi state ap­pears to be grad­u­ally heat­ing up the polity.

The group said in the state­ment that if the zone is not go­ing to be given the chance to pro­duce a gover­nor in the forth­com­ing elec­tions, the federal govern­ment should carve it out of Kebbi state, adding that Kebbi state is not made for Gwandu and Ar­gungu Emi­rates alone.
