Police arrest 40 thugs in Sokoto
The Sokoto State police anti-thuggery squad has arrested 40 suspected thugs in the state since its inauguration.
The squad tagged “Quick Response Squad” was inaugurated by the state
commissioner of police, Alhaji Shu’aibu Gambo, on March 21, to tackle thuggery in the state.
Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Almustapha Sani, who said that Sokoto is no longer a safe haven for political thugs, added: “We have arrested several of them and we are on the trail of those on the run through information we are extracting from their detained friends”.
Sani said 23 of the suspects have been prosecuted while the remaining 17 are aiding police investigation with useful information.
“We are not against any political party, but we are doing this to protect the lives and property of members of the public. Let me assure you that in this fight, we will not relent. We will chase them until the state is rid of thugs,” he said.
He commended the state interim leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) for conducting a peaceful congress, saying the police have not received any complaint of breakdown of law and order in any of the congress venues.
