The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) yesterday said that its 2014 Warri Grand Prix meet in conjunction with the Delta State Government would hold on June 13.

The Technical Director of the federation, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, said in an interview in Abuja that the meet had the approval of the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA). He said that the theme for the event was ‘Speed of the Baton Inspiration for Next Generation,’ assuring that the meet would be of high standard.

“The Delta State Government has appointed Soloo Sports Management & Marketing LLC to employ its sports management and marketing skills to deliver a world-class meet,’’ he said.

Nesiama called on interested associations, clubs athletes’ representatives and managers to register their athletes in the IAAF top 30 in their particular events of interest on or before May 10.

“Registration should indicate athlete’s full details, including IAAF ranking, Personal and Seasonal Best (PBs and SBs) in events being entered for.”

According him, the organisers of the meet in conjunction with the associations will send letters of invitation to affiliated associations, clubs and managers of athletes selected as confirmed for the meet.

“Athletes on the stand-by list would also be communicated accordingly and the meet organisers would be responsible for flight tickets, accommodation and feeding for all athletes confirmed for the meet,” he said. (NAN)
