BUSINESS Nexim Bank boss urges youths to acquire vocational skills

Daily Trust - - SMES -

The Managing Director of Nexim Bank, Mr Robert Orya, has advised unemployed youths in Benue State to take advantage of the Entrepreneurial Development Centre (EDC) there to acquire vocational skills.

Orya gave the advice on yesterday in Makurdi as a guest speaker at the inauguration of a small and micro finance scheme and the presentation of N500 million cheques to beneficiaries in Makurdi.

The Nexim boss said the state was endowed with natural resources waiting to be tapped by entrepreneurs.

He said the environment was conducive for investment, appealing to the beneficiaries of the loans to utilise them in the areas of poultry, fisheries, piggery and entertainment.

Orya chided youths for abandoning the virtues of hard work and embracing begging as a way of life. He assured that the micro finance scheme would boost socio-economic development of the state and reduce poverty.

Orya said that given the right skills and access to capital, small businesses would transform the state from its present status of being the food basket to becoming the industrial hub of the nation.

He said that Nexim Bank was committed to developing agriculture, science and entertainment sectors of the economy, appealing to the beneficiaries of the scheme to utilise the loans judiciously.

Governor Gabriel Suswam, in his speech, appealed to the beneficiaries not to consider the loans as government largesse, insisting that those who received the loan must repay. (NAN)
