The Zamfara State Hisbah Commission has intercepted bags of grains and cotton that were either not full or mixed with sand in Talata Mafara township market.

Hisbah permanent commissioner, Alhaji Lawali Dan Ali, said the consignment intercepted include 70 bags of maize,50 bags of millet, guinea corn, pepper, 64 bags of groundnut and 45 bags of cotton. “Cheating of unsuspecting customers must stop forthwith as this can lead to a disastrous consequence. Adulterated food could be very poisonous to consumers,” he said.

He lamented that in recent times, cotton farmers have been complaining of poor cotton seed germination owing to adulteration.
