Hos­pi­tal­ity can cre­ate more jobs if prop­erly har­nessed - Duke

Min­is­ter of Cul­ture, Tourism and Na­tional Ori­en­ta­tion Edem Duke has said that the hos­pi­tal­ity sec­tor will cre­ate mil­lions of jobs in the coun­try if prop­erly har­nessed.

He made the re­mark yes­ter­day at the launch­ing of a book on hos­pi­tal­ity ti­tled “Hos­pi­tal­ity Man­age­ment Prac­tices in Nigeria” au­thored by two di­rec­tors of Nanet Ho­tels.

The min­is­ter, who was rep­re­sented by a di­rec­tor in the min­istry, Dr. Paul Ada­liko, ad­vised stake­hold­ers in the hos­pi­tal­ity sub-sec­tor to ex­plore the po­ten­tials avail­able which will pro­vide jobs for the youth while con­tribut­ing to the coun­try’s econ­omy.

He hinted that the sec­tor has been the main­stay of the economies many coun­tries in the world.

Speak­ing to news­men at the side of the event, the founder of Nanet Ho­tels, Mrs. Nancy Ak­pabio, whose son, Mr. Ini Ak­pabio, a di­rec­tor with the ho­tel is also one of the co-au­thors of the book, com­mended the ef­fort of the au­thors on of­fer­ing an in­sight into the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try, thus pro­vid­ing a pro­fes­sional ref­er­ence point for stake­hold­ers.

“It is a great achieve­ment for me per­son­ally, with the help of God and the fam­ily, to have nur­tured Nanet through all these years. It is in­deed a thing of joy for a busi­ness to pass through gen­er­a­tions and sur­vive,” she said.

She also promised to con­tinue giv­ing her best to clients any­time.

Also speak­ing, the co-au­thor, Ini Ak­pabio ac­knowl­edged that the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try in Nigeria must be stan­dard­ised to global stan­dards which ne­ces­si­tates the cre­ation of an av­enue to en­lighten the pub­lic who are the ma­jor stake­hold­ers, as the clients, of the in­dus­try.

In her speech a Nige­rian Diplo­mat in South Africa, Amb.Uche Achulu Okeke com­mended the au­thors for their con­tri­bu­tion to the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try through the pub­li­ca­tion.

The chief launcher, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Dan Oil and Petro­chem­i­cals limited, Al­haji Idris Umar, who was rep­re­sented by Mr. God­win Ekpo, com­mended the au­thors of the book for their con­tri­bu­tion in a sec­tor that lacks pub­li­ca­tions re­gard­ing its prac­tices. He pur­chased ten copies of the book for N3m.
